airbrushed ads

2 ads for Maybelline & Lancome (both owned by L’Oreal) have been banned in Britain because they have been excessively airbrushed. The Advertising Standards Agency has declared that although Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington who feature in the ads are very attractive in their own rights, the finished images exagerrate the effects of the anti-aging product they claim to have used.

Mario Testino – the world renowned photographer who shot Julia Roberts for this campaign – defended his work by saying that the finished image was “aspirational”. The Advertising Standards Agency was also told that they were not permitted to see the original, un-retouched photos to compare.
