Today I found out that I don’t need to go for a blood test or an ECG.

Fingers crossed I’m still alright in a week.

circadian rhythms

I go through some pretty regular bouts of insomnia that usually involve sleeping for a couple of hours a night during the week and then crashing at the weekend to make up for it. I would not recommend this. I didn’t sleep much last week, for some reason I still couldn’t sleep this weekend and now I feel like I’m going to trip over my own feet.

I spent this morning reading up about remedies as, even when I’ve been awake all night, I’m pretty sure calling in sick to work because I’m tired is not an option unless I want to get fired. There’s the usual “avoid caffeine”, “avoid stress”, “try and create a regular routine in the evenings”, but I also found some interesting stuff on Circadian Rhythms. This is what regulates the changes in your body throughout the day (eg. a boost in hormone levels in the mornings to make you feel awake).

The main thing I learnt is that, when left to its own devices, the human body clock reverts to a 25 hour cycle.

You know what this means? This means that when I have too many things to get done in too short a space of time and I say “there’s not enough hours in the day”, that’s actually true.
